How it works

The speaker rests outside your ear

A flat driver is sewn inside the fabric over each ear. It rests against the outside of your ear the way a pillow does, so fabric is the only thing between your head and the pillowcase.

It stays outside the canal

Fabric and a flat pad, resting where your ear meets your head. This is the reason most people end up here: a bud that felt fine sitting up turns into a pressure point on a pillow by two in the morning.

Mask and sound in one piece

The same piece that carries the audio covers your eyes, so one thing on your head does both jobs. Two of the most-sold alternatives are bands, and they leave the eyes to a second product.

The electronics come out

Slide the flat module out through the lining and the band goes in the wash. It is a textile against your face for seven hours a night, and it collects what a pillowcase collects.

Before you buy

Six things worth knowing first

  • Made for the sound you choose.

Your podcast, your audiobook, your own track. It plays what your phone plays.

  • The speaker sits outside.

Flat, sewn into the fabric, resting where the ear meets your head.

  • It covers your eyes too.

One thing on your head instead of two.

  • The band goes in the wash.

Slide the flat module out through the lining and machine wash it.

  • Pairs and plays.

Bluetooth to your phone. Ready in one tap, every night.

  • The battery is covered.

Twelve months, and the battery is inside the warranty.

Why choose it

Why choose the Slumbra

Two hands sliding the flat electronics module out of the fabric lining of the mask

The warranty says who pays

Twelve months, replacement, postage both ways on us — and a battery that will not charge at all is a defect, in writing.

A couple asleep, one wearing the mask and the other undisturbed with nothing on their head

Made for the side of the bed you are on

You need something playing. The person beside you needs quiet. This shape exists to give both of you what you need.

Close on a sleeping face on a pillow, the ear completely free under the mask band

The ear stays empty

The band passes above the ear and the flat pad rests over it, so your ear meets the pillow the way it always has.

Hands holding the mask open beside the removed module and cable, washing machine behind

It washes like a garment

Take the module out, put the band in the machine. It is a textile against your face seven hours a night; wash it like one.

The mask folded on a nightstand beside the module on a USB-C cable, lamp low

Nothing to download

It pairs and plays what you already listen to — your library, your account, your choice of what to fall asleep to.

You need something playing to fall asleep.

The person next to you needs nothing at all.

A bud in your ear stops being tolerable by 2am.

So the speaker goes flat in the fabric, outside the ear.

Straight comparison

Sleep mask with sound, earbuds, speaker on the nightstand

The honest version: all three get audio to you in bed. They differ in what they cost your ear, your eyes and the person beside you.

Plain terms

The two things to know before you order

If it stops charging altogether inside the first twelve months, that is a defect and we replace it — the warranty page says so in those words, and it also says we pay the postage both ways and answer within two business days. What it does not cover is the slow fade every lithium battery has after months of use; no warranty in this category does, and ours says that plainly too.

And you bring your own audio. It pairs over Bluetooth and plays whatever your phone plays — your podcast, your audiobook, the noise track you already use. There is no app to install and no library to learn, which is deliberate: being handed a sound library nobody asked for is the loudest single complaint owners write about in this category.

Questions & answers

Will this block out my partner’s snoring?

No. There is no active cancellation and nothing seals your ear canal, so the snoring reaches you as it does now — what changes is that you have something of your own playing over it, which for most people is the part that makes 1am survivable. Every fabric product in this category works this way, ours included. If what you want is silence rather than something to listen to, earplugs are the tool for that.

Can the person next to me hear it?

At the volume most people fall asleep to, generally not — that is why this shape exists instead of a speaker on the nightstand. We are not going to give you a decibel figure, because we have not measured one and nobody in this category publishes one either. What we can tell you is what changes it: the louder you play it, the closer the other pillow and the quieter the room, the more likely a whisper of it carries. Turning it up to cover a noisy street works against you.

Is it comfortable if I sleep on my side?

That is the whole point of the flat-speaker shape: nothing sits inside your ear, so there is no hard object between your ear and the pillow. It is the single most common reason people give for abandoning earbuds at night. Being plain about it: a mask on your face all night is still a thing on your face, and the first couple of nights are an adjustment for most people.

How long does the battery last before it stops holding a charge?

Two different things, and the warranty page separates them. A battery that holds less charge after months of use is normal wear, and like every warranty in this category ours does not cover that. A battery that will not charge at all is a defect, and we replace it within the twelve months, postage both ways on us. That second sentence is the one you will not find on the other warranty pages.

Can I wash it?

Yes. Slide the flat module out through the opening in the lining and the band goes in the machine. This matters more than it sounds — it is a textile pressed against your face for seven hours a night. Most masks in this category work the same way, with the electronics out first — so treat it as a feature to expect, not a reason to choose.

Does it need an app?

No. It pairs over Bluetooth and plays whatever your phone plays — your podcast, your audiobook, your own noise track. There is no library to download and no account to make, and that is deliberate: the loudest single complaint we found from owners in this category was being handed a sound library they never asked for.

What if I do not like it?

Send it back within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the product price; on a change of mind the return postage is yours. That is separate from the warranty, which runs twelve months from delivery, replaces the unit, and pays the postage both ways.

30-day returns

Try it on the night you would have given up

The one where you lie down, put a bud in, and take it out again forty minutes later. Put this on instead, play the thing you were going to play, and see whether you still take it off. If you do, send it back within 30 days for a refund of the product price.
