Fabric shaver

The ball sits above the weave.
Only that comes off.

A perforated guard lies flat on the knit, and three speeds on the handle let you decide how hard it works — lowest for cashmere, highest for a coat sleeve.

Pilnix Fabric Shaver

Turn the force down. Keep the sweater.

Three speeds on the handle and a perforated guard between the blade and the knit — so the ball comes off and the stitch under it stays where it is.

How it works

The guard decides whether you use it twice

A pill is loose fibre that has worked its way out of the weave and balled up on top. The blade takes the ball; the guard keeps it off the thread.

A screen, not an open blade

The perforated guard sits flat on the fabric. What rises through the holes is the ball standing proud of the surface — the weave stays under the metal.

Three speeds, on the handle

Lowest for cashmere and fine merino, highest for a coat sleeve or a couch arm. You change it with your thumb, without stopping to swap a part.

The chamber twists off

Lift the head out, twist the chamber free, tip the lint into a bin. No tools, and nothing to buy again — it charges over the USB-C cable you own.

Before you buy

Six things worth knowing first

  • Set it before you start.

Lowest speed for fine knits. You can always go up.

  • The guard does the deciding.

Ball above the holes, weave below the metal.

  • Empty it when it slows.

A full chamber costs you suction. Twist, tip, carry on.

  • Six blades, and they lift out.

The head comes free for cleaning, and spares come in the box.

  • Charges on your own cable.

USB-C. Nothing to replace, nothing to buy again.

  • Coats, couches, blankets.

Anywhere fibre balls up and makes the thing read worn out.

Why choose it

Why choose the Pilnix

A thumb pressing the button while the display shows the level bars

Control and a guard, together

The rest of the field gives you one or the other. This gives you both, and that is the whole reason it exists.

The shaver resting on a beige knit sleeve with visible pills

Made for the garment you are afraid of

Start low on the cashmere you would be upset to lose. The speed goes up when the fabric can take it.

Two hands tipping grey lint from the clear chamber into a bin

Emptying is four seconds

Twist the chamber off, tip it into the bin, twist it back. That is the only maintenance there is.

A hand holding the removable six-blade head beside the guard

The head lifts out

The six-blade plate comes free so you can brush it clean, and the box ships spare plates with it.

A woman running the shaver down the sleeve of a navy coat on a hanger

It works on more than sweaters

Coat sleeves, couch arms, blankets and fleece — anywhere fibre balls up and reads as worn out.

The sweater is not worn out. It just reads that way.

Pilling is loose fibre, balled up on the surface.

Set the speed low, let the guard hold the weave down.

The ball comes off. The sweater comes back.

Straight comparison

Fabric shaver, disposable razor, pumice stone

The honest version: all three take pills off. They differ in how much they let you control, and in what happens when you slip.

The clear collection chamber, twisted off and half full of grey lint

Plain terms

The two things to know before you order

The collection chamber fills, and a full chamber costs you suction — the makers in this category do not publish how much it holds, and neither do we, because we have not measured it. Treat it the way you treat a vacuum: when the pull feels weaker, twist the chamber off and tip it out. A heavily pilled coat will need it more than once.

And this is the tool for control, not for raw power. True & Tidy publishes twelve blades across two motors against our six. We publish no rpm figure at all, because we have not measured ours and we are not going to print a number we did not take. What we do have is three speeds and a guard, which is the pair nobody else on the table puts together.

Control, not brute force

Three speeds.
One guard.

Every other shaver on our comparison table gives you one of the two. The ones with interchangeable screens run at a single fixed speed; the one with three speeds has a single opening for cashmere and for blankets alike.

Questions & answers

Does it thin out the cloth after repeated use?

It removes what has already come loose. A pill is fibre that has worked its way out of the weave and tangled into a ball on the surface — cutting the ball off takes the knot, not the structure underneath. What does damage a garment is a blade meeting live thread, which is what the guard exists to prevent. On anything fine, run the lowest speed and keep the guard flat rather than pressing it in.

Will it damage cashmere or a delicate knit?

This is the case to be careful with. Use the lowest speed, hold the guard flat against the surface instead of pushing into it, and work in short passes. If the garment is one you would genuinely hate to lose, try an inside seam or a hem first. A shaver with a single fixed speed takes that choice away from you; this one does not.

How is this different from a cheaper one?

Two things you can check on any product page before you pay: whether the speed adjusts on the device, and whether there is a guard between the blade and the fabric. Plenty of shavers have one. On our comparison table, none of the four competitors has both — the ones with interchangeable screens run at a single speed, and the one with three speeds has a single opening for every fabric.

How often do I have to empty it?

Whenever the pull feels weaker, and on a badly pilled coat that can be more than once. A full chamber costs suction — Conair says as much in its own manual, that an overfilled collector can slow or stop the unit. Nobody in this category publishes the capacity, ourselves included, so we would rather teach the habit than sell you a number.

Is it any good on furniture and blankets?

Yes, and it is where the higher speeds earn their place. Couch arms, fleece throws, blankets and coat sleeves all pill the same way a sweater does. Go up a speed on heavy upholstery, and expect to empty the chamber more often than you would on a single jumper.

What is the motor speed?

We do not publish one. Philips publishes 8,800 rpm and Steamery publishes 8,000 for their own devices; we have not measured ours, and printing a supplier figure as though we had taken it would be dishonest. What we publish is what we can stand behind: three speeds, six blades, and a guard.

What if I do not like it?

Send it back within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the product price. On a change of mind the return postage is yours. This is a returns window, not a multi-year defect warranty — Philips publishes two years on its shaver and Steamery one, and we would rather you knew that from us than found it out later.

30-day returns

Start with the sweater you stopped wearing

Take the one at the back of the drawer — the one that is not damaged, just fuzzy. Lowest speed, guard flat, short passes. If it does not come back looking like itself, send the shaver back within 30 days for a refund of the product price.
